EWRT 2.15 Assignment 1A: Definition EssayWrite an essay in which you define the term "torture."
- Type of essay: Definition Essay
- Purpose: To let the reader see the term, "torture," through your eyes
- Working draft due uploaded to Comment before class Jan 17 (700 word minimum)
- Final draft due uploaded to Comment before class Jan 22 (1,000 word minimum)
- MLA format (see Barnet, pp. 251-53 for sample of correct format)
You may wish to consult outside sources as you develop your definition; however, the use of outside sources is not required for Assignment 1A. I strongly urge you to do a "free-write" of your own definition of torture before you consult a dictionary or any other outside sources. (If you do use any outside sources, you should cite them, of course.)
Your working draft may or my not have a clearly developed thesis. You should strive, however, to at least write a strong title as the last step of writing your working draft. (Examples of weak titles: "Torture," or "The Definition of Torture," or "What I Think Torture Is.")
