Welcome EWRT 2 Students!I look forward to
meeting you, working with you, and experiencing the deep fun that comes
from intellectual engagement within a collegial community!
Before
you commit to the class, however, I would like you to read the
following two notes, which may affect your decision to take this
section of EWRT 2 or switch to another.
NOTE 1: There will be a significant online component to this course,
including electronic submission of all essays, online discussion and
peer review assignments, downloading of supplemental readings from this
website, online grammar exercises, and weekly sessions in the ATC 102
computer lab. I am more than happy to help students develop online
expertise. If you are willing to
learn, I am willing to teach you, no matter your current level of
expertise; however, you may wish to enroll in a different section of
EWRT 2 if you would prefer to avoid online requirements.
NOTE 2: There
is ADULT CONTENT (sexual content, drug use, and racial, ethnic and
religious stereotyping) in one of the required texts (Bangkok 8). We will be discussing this novel in class under strict rules of civility, but if you are uncomfortable or offended by this subject matter, you may wish to enroll in a different section of EWRT 2.
In
my humble opinion, EWRT 2 is a critically important class because our
individual as well as our group survival and wellbeing depend on the
growth of knowledge. Knowledge grows when human beings wield the tools
of critical thinking, collegial conversation, and argumentative
writing.
We all have a stake in each other's
ability to wield these tools, and my hope is that you will be as
committed as I am to helping each other develop these critical skills
in the next twelve weeks.
