Take another look at this photo.
- Assume that the prisoner torture/abuse represented in the photo is morally, ethically and legally wrong.
- Assume that Pvt. England (the smiling woman leaning over the pile of bodies) may not have known that what she was doing is wrong.
Based on your understanding of human nature and/or your knowledge of
the Abu Graib prisoner torture and abuse case, speculate on possible reasons why Pvt.
England may not have known her actions were wrong. (It might be helpful for you to think about the character of the doctor in Death and the Maiden.)
Write freely for 10-15 minutes. You do not need to edit your writing (so long as you think your group members will understand what you have said).
- Upload your writing to Comment no later than midnight, Friday, January 26.
- Read and comment on your peer group members' Preliminary Draft Assignment 1B before our next class meeting.
(Don't forget to do the reading for Monday, Jan. 29! Barnet, pp. 65-67; 72-88; 172-186. There will be a quiz on these readings.)
