Paper #3 - Choices

First Choice:
Write a letter to La Voz or The Mercury or a magazine like Cosmo, Time, or Sports Illustrated. Look at articles in current and back issues of the paper for ideas. Express your opinion in a succinct and interesting way. Submit two copies: one to me and one to the publication. 50 points based on interest (10 points), persuasiveness (to your point of view - 20 points), specificity (10 points), and grammar-punctuation-spelling (10 points).

Second Choice:
Write a Resume and a Cover Letter. You may either write ones that actually are true and fit your current situation and current job possibilities (use the Mercury ads or monster.com to research jobs) or else imagine that you have a BA from your current transfer-goal (eg. San Jose State or UCLA or SCU) and write your resume with that imaginary goal completed, plus a cover letter to companies for which you would like to work. 25 points for resume and 25 points for cover letter. Points based on format (clean, easy-to-understand), coverage of important points, and grammar-punctuation-spelling.

Third Choice:
Write a story or a play or a series of poems (at least 5 good poems). Talk to me first about your ideas! Please do not give me something that you have turned in to a previous teacher or for a previous class. This should be NEW WORK!!! 50 possible points based on style (10 points), originality (10 points) , maturity (20 points), and grammar-punctuation-spelling (10 points).

Fourth Choice:
Write your three essays for UC transfer or a longer essay for a private college. For UC, one essay is 600 words and the other two are 200 words each. 50 points possible. 20 points for truly answering the questions, especially the Transfer Applicants section as well. 15 points for organization, clarity, grace, and style in your writing. 15 points for spelling, grammar, and syntax. [I expect only perfection.]
