EWRT 200 is a five unit course intended to help students learn to read and write confidently and successfully. Completion of this course and the EWRT 150 enable to move on to the next level EWRT 100B, unless you must also pass a reading course.

GOALS:
to develop the reading and writing skills necessary for success in college and in life
to improve vocabulary and learn to use new words in writings
to explain in writing and discussion the main ideas of readings and the details supporting these ideas
to listen to and evaluate ideas of others, and to receive evaluation
to respond to readings and support your ideas clearly and convincingly
to develop study and attendance attitudes necessary for success in college
to write clear, grammatical paragraphs on assigned subjects
to organize and develop ideas thoroughly in written form
to write for various purposes
to edit for errors in grammar, spelling, and punctuation

Essay Format and Revisions:
All essays must be typed and double-spaced in 12-point font with one-inch margins.
I will NOT accept a LATE paper once the next assignment has been turned in, unless special arrangements have been made prior to the next essay’s due date.
If you are asked to rewrite a paper, you must: a)meet with me to discuss the paper, and b) turn in the rewrite before the next assignment is due.
REWRITES must include the original draft and the grade sheet.  The changes need to be underlined or highlighted.  You can revise any of the essays. I will take rewrites only three weeks after the original assignment.
All essays must be submitted in order to earn a passing grade in the course.

Activities and Requirements:
1) Do all assigned reading, writing, and other homework.
2) Prepare for and participate in discussions.  This includes class discussion as well as working with peers in groups.
3) Take all quizzes on readings and sentence-level activities from the text, workbook, and class discussions.
4) Participate in all classroom activities.

Attendance:
You must attend class and be on time. If you are late, come anyway.  If you are absent more than three times during the quarter, you may be dropped from the class. If you are ill, please contact me or classmates for assignments and to find out what you have missed.  Any work that is missed must be made up.

Finally, Welcome.  I am looking forward to a productive and rewarding quarter as we get to know each other and learn from each other.
