"Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire."--William Butler Yeats
"We live at the level of our language. Whatever we can articulate, we can imagine or understand or explore. All you have to do to educate a child is leave him alone and teach him to read. --from the journals of Ellen Gilchrist
I teach in the Language Arts Division at De Anza College in Cupertino, California. In Winter 2014, I will teach one section of LART 211 with Carolyn Fasano, from 12:30-2:45 pm, Monday-Thursday in room S-71 (closest to the Flint Center Parking Garage). Most weeks, I teach on Tuesday and Thursday, and Carolyn teaches on Monday and Wednesday. My office hour will be on Tuesdays from 3-3:50pm in F-61L. Please stop by for help or a chat.
Plan on purchasing these required materials:
1. Healthy, Wealthy, and Wise course pack, available only at the De Anza Bookstore for about $44.
2. The Color of Water by James McBride (available at most bookstores and online; a used copy is OK, for about $14.)
It is especially important that you buy the course pack for the first week of class so as not to fall behind. The Color of Water is not needed until after the midterm. Thanks to a grant, you will be provided free of charge with your own copy of The American Heritage Dictionary, which you may keep forever!
Hope to see you around campus, or you may e-mail me at Panfilinatalie@fhda.edu.
