Nursing 86L: Prelicensure PreceptorshipNursing 86L, Prelicensure Preceptorship, is the clinical component for Quarter 6. During this course the student is paired with a Registered Nurse in a community hospital setting.
The Prelicensure Preceptorship is designed to prepare the student to function as a graduate nurse. Students will participate in a prelicensure preceptorship during eight weeks of the quarter. Students will work a minimum of 24h/week (either 8 hour shifts or 12 hour shifts) on either the day, evening, or night shifts, including weekend shifts. Emphasis will be given to management/leadership and ethical/legal issues during the prelicensure preceptorship.

Orientation for the preceptorship is Wednesday of Week 1 of the quarter (room and campus location TBA - see greensheet for details) and is mandatory for all students precepting this quarter. During your preceptorhip, you must complete the clinical evaluation tool prior to the start of your midpoint and final shifts. Please follow the tool directions, marking objectives as "S," "U," or "X." Include narrative comments describing how the objectives were met. On the final page, please write a narrative evaluation on your clinical progress. Save the document with your name (e.g., Clinical Evaluation: Mary Poppins, S.N.), then e-mail it to your clinical instructor before the START of Shift #10 (shift #7 for students precepting on 12 hour shifts).
