BioI have been an instructor at De Anza College for over fifteen years. My basic education in nursing was a Bachelor of Science which I received from Montana State University. I came to California to pursue my MSN, which I was awarded from UCSF (emphasis: critical care).
Although my primary focus has been teaching students in the Registered Nursing program, I have also taught other types of students, including Medical Assisting/Health Technology/ECG tech students, acute care CNA students, LVN students, and continuing education courses for RNs. I was the instructor for Critical Endocrinology Concepts in De Anza's Critical Care Series (CE courses for RNs), and I have taught other CE courses in the areas of gerontology and ECG interpretation.
My passion in nursing is care of critically ill adults, especially the older adult. I am a practicing ICU nurse at a local community hospital. Although I love teaching, direct patient care is the one thing that "recharges" my batteries.

Last but not least, I love to write, primarily nursing textbooks and chapters in other authors' texts. My most recent works include the endocrinology unit (3 chapters) in Susan de Wit's Medical-Surgical Nursing text, which is coming out later this year. I am presently writing chapters for Susan's Fundamentals of Nursing text, due out next year. Of course, my proudest writing accomplishment is publication of my gerontology text, Caring for the Older Adult: A Health Promotion Perspective.
