Intermediate Electronic Music Info
Intermediate Electronic Music is for students who have completed Introduction to Electronic Music or who have equivalent experience. The class focuses on the use of professional-level audio and MIDI sequencing software in a multi-device studio. Students complete audio/music projects using software including Logic Pro, Reason, and Protools LE.
This course is taken by a variety of students, including those who
- want to further develop skills acquired in Music 8A: Introduction to Electronic Music.
- are interested in working in a studio with a variety of hardware and software.
- have experience with basic computer-based MIDI sequencing and would like to develop skills with professional-level sequencing software.
- who want to gain experience working with sound-design software and hardware. (Repeat Music 8B students only.)

Intermediate Electronic Music
3 units
Advisories: READ 201 and EWRT 100A or LART 200 or ESL 161-163; MUSI 51
Two hours lecture and two hours lecture/laboratory
Intermediate level electronic music techniques including digital and analog synthesizer sound design and editing; professional studio and computer music software including integrated audio/MIDI sequencing software, instrument editors, software synthesizers; basic audio/MIDI studio configuration; modular synthesis; basic digital audio recording and editing; basic audio signal processing; introduction to concepts of music notation software; historical and technological development of electronic music; roles of electronic music technology in twentieth-century music. Some prior music experience and/or concurrent enrollment in MUSI 10A or MUSI 12A is recommended but not required.
