Creating a Replica of an Artwork
1. Choose a work of art or architecture from your textbook. The work should be from one of the periods that were covered in class.
2. Create a replica of that work, (or a model if it is architecture). The replica should look the way the work looked originally when it was first created, and not a mere copy of the work in its current state. For example – if it is a Greek sculpture, parts of it were originally painted. You will need to research it thoroughly and use your imagination in order to create a convincing replica.
- If the original work is very large, you may scale it down.
- Your replica should be a real replica or model and not a computer-generated image.
3. Prepare a portfolio that will include:
a. Cover page with your name, the name of the work of art that you copied, date, and name of class.
b. Photos of your project documenting the main stages of its creation
c. Description of the chosen work of art and its original use; explanation of why you chose this work, how you researched it, which materials you used and how you created the replica (one to two pages).
d. List of sources that were used for the research.
4. Bring your piece to class on the day when the term paper is due. Be ready to present it to the class and explain what it is and how you made it.
5. Submit the portfolio and take your work home.
