Cellular Chemistry

Lab Cellular Chemistry:

  • There are 2 parts to this lab
    • In lab, you will identify food unknowns
    • Before the lab, at home, you will complete diet work "Examining you Diet"

PRE-LAB WORK: "Examining your Diet"

1. Record your diet for 2 days out of the week prior to lab:

    • Redord everything you eat on one 'good day' diet
    • Record everything you eat on one 'bad day' diet

RECORD all food eaten, gram weight of carbohydrates, proteins, total fats, and calories on Table 1 Diet for a Day, page 36

2. Evaluate the number of calories and composition of your diet for both days

    • Use nutrition labels attached to your food items to get gram weight and percent information
    • Calulate the total number of calories and percentages of carbohydrates, proteins, lipids (total fats)
    • Compare your results to Table 1 Dietary Changes Advocated by the US Government, page 34

3. Describe how your diet days compare to the US Government recommendations by filling in question #2, page 36

4. Access www.mypyramid.gov to get an estimate on 'how well you are doing with your diet and excersize'

    • Click on < MyPyramid Pan >
    • Follow the instructions under this link
    • Print pages to turn in with your Cellular Chemistry lab paper at the end of your lab session (Tuesday, 10/16; Thursday, 10/18)
