ESL 263: Low Advanced Writing and Grammar

ESL is a low-advanced grammar and writing course. The course objectives
are as follows:
  1. To improve skills in writing clearly and with purpose
  2. To articulate and use basic rules of grammar at or above the 263 level
  3. To develop and use an academic vocabulary including idiomatic expressions
  4. To compose original written work in the lab and at home
  5. To edit work independently
Required Text
Writing Clearly An Editing Guide by Janet Lane and Ellen Lange

Recommended
A dictionary of idioms such as Cambridge or American Heritage

Grading
  1. 26 points - homework        
  2. 24 points - lab work
  3. 20 points - midterm
  4. 30 points - final
Late papers will be accepted but they will be graded down 10%
No extra credit assignments will be given.

Absences
If you miss more than three classes you may be dropped from class. Being late three times equals being absent once.

Academic Honesty
Do your own homework and tests. Do not copy other people's answers. Anyone
found cheating on homework or tests will receive an F and may be dropped from class.
