My Classes

Psychology is the study of factors influencing human behavior, which include motivation, attitudes, development, emotions, memory, etc.

Students learn in different ways. For this reason I use modern videos, shows, and articles for us to discuss with regard to psychology. I like to use in-class quizzes and group discussion so students may apply the information they are obtaining.

As of Fall 2007, my students began a service learning requirement for psychology 1! I am very excited to help students see why psychology is important and how different people/agencies use psychology in the real world. **Because this is a time-based requirement, general homework is not assigned, although when working in groups students may turn in classwork.

Also as of Fall 2007, in my social psychology class (psych 8), students have a Cultural Self-Analysis (CSA) project to undertake. If we are going to move into becoming more understanding of one another, we must first see how we behave and think. Then we can begin dealing with other people through the understanding that we all have different and separate experiences.

I taught developmental aspects of psychology (psych 14) this past summer and students conducted a developmental analysis. By actively thinking about oneself through infancy to adulthood, students found more appreciation of their families. Having a detailed account of what their mothers endured while pregnant with them was exciting for me to read; especially because I am a mother of three. I hope to do this again!
